White and Associates' areas of practice include (but are not limited to) those described below.
Divorce & Family Law
An attorney representing you in a family law matter must carefully evaluate the circumstances of your case. Your lawyer should be patient, interactive and know how to protect your interests. Several lives can be affected by the outcome of a divorce, adoption, paternity suit or any other family law matter. Providing thorough representation, while avoiding unnecessary court proceedings, should be the primary goal.
Family court proceedings are foreign to most people and can be intimidating. Your attorney should explain the procedures in a clear and understandable manner to ensure that you are comfortable during this difficult and emotional process.
The White & Associates Attorneys will guide you through the process. We will listen carefully to your concerns, minimize attorney fees where possible, and efficiently, effectively and zealously process your case, so that you can move forward with your life.

Criminal Defense
When people are accused of a crime, they face the terrible possibility of going to jail and/or prison. We, the attorneys of White & Associates, will represent anyone charged with a crime to the best of our ability. We can negotiate with prosecutors and can often arrange for reduced charges, lesser sentences and even complete dismissal of the charges.
As criminal defense lawyers, we do much more than simply question witnesses in court. We:
- Formulate sentencing programs tailored to our client's specific needs, often helping defendants avoid future brushes with the justice system.
- Provide defendants with a reality check, a knowledgeable, objective perspective on their situation and what is likely to happen should their cases go to trial. This perspective is vital for defendants trying to decide whether to accept a prosecutor's offered "plea bargain."
- Are familiar with local court customs and procedures that aren't written down anywhere (for example, a lawyer may know which prosecutor has the "real" authority to settle a case, and what kinds of arguments are likely to appeal to that prosecutor and/or the judge).
- Understand the possible "hidden costs" of pleading guilty which a self-represented person might never think about.
- Spend crucial time on your case.
- Gather information from prosecution witnesses as well as defense witnesses.
- Hire and manage private investigators to assist in gathering information to resolve your case.

Personal Injury
Many types of personal injuries require the skills of an experienced personal injury lawyer. You may need a lawyer because of complex legal rules involved in your particular claim, or because the severity of your injuries might cause your compensation to vary greatly from the norm -- or simply because an insurance company refuses to settle a matter in good faith.
Long-Term or Permanently Disabling Injuries, Severe Injuries or Medical Malpractice suits all most certainly require the skills of an experienced lawyer. White & Associates attorneys have the knowledge and experience to evaluate the long term and short term costs of your injury and have the skill to arrange the best outcome for you.

DWI/DUI
Minnesota DWI / DUI law is similar to the drunk driving laws of other states, in that every Minnesota DWI arrest triggers two separate cases: a criminal court case, where a variety of drunk driving punishment is sought, and a Minnesota Department of Public Safety civil case, where your Minnesota driving privileges are affected. White and Associates offers many years of expertise in this specialized area of law.
You should contact White & Associates immediately if you’ve been arrested for drunk driving in Minnesota. Minnesota DWI laws are among the toughest in the country, and you have a limited amount of time to act to save your driver’s license following a DWI arrest.

Probate and Wills
What will happen to my assets when I pass away? How will my debts be paid? How can I make sure that all my children get an equal share? If I am disabled, who can make decisions on my behalf? Can I avoid probate? What happens if one or more of my heirs pass away before I do?
These are some of the questions that people address in preparing for the unpredictable. There are places where a person can compose a “Do-it-Yourself” Will, but unfortunately, a self-made Will almost never considers the questions stated above. The attorneys at White & Associates know that the less precise a Will is, the more time it will spend in probate. The cost of probate is taken directly from the estate. Therefore making it possible that fewer assets would be available after the process is through. The goal is to maximize assets going to your beneficiaries.

OFP/Restraining Orders
White & Associates attorneys represent husbands and wives in domestic abuse claims. We can represent you if you are being abused, or if you are wrongfully being accused of domestic abuse. We have extensive experience handling domestic abuse claims in Minnesota family law courts.
Our family law attorneys understand the issues involved in a domestic abuse case, including allegations of spousal abuse or child abuse. Minnesota family law courts can issue several orders to assist victims of abuse, including the following:
- Order for Protection (OFP) - sometimes referred to as a Protective Order. An OFP is a restraining order that limits or prohibits contact with the abused victim and/or children.
- Restraining Order - including a Temporary Restraining Order or TRO. A TRO can be issued to limit or prohibit contact until a full hearing can be held to determine if the order should be made permanent.
- Harassment Order - sometimes called a Harassment Restraining Order or HRO. A harassment order can be issued against anyone or any entity that harasses you; and does not necessarily need to be your ex-spouse.
- Child Custody Modifications - In addition to restraining orders or orders for protection, the courts can also order changes to child custody to protect a child from domestic abuse.
